SINTEF is Scandinavia's largest independent research organisation, and is a non-profit research foundation. We employ 2000 people, most of whom are located in Trondheim and Oslo (Norway). More than 90% of our annual turnover comes from contract research for industry and the public sector in Norway and internationally, and we receive minimal state funding (around 6%). SINTEF is multidisciplinary, with international top-level expertise in a wide range of technological and scientific disciplines, medicine and the social sciences. Our vision is "technology for a better society", and it is an important aspect of our societal role to contribute to the creation of more jobs. We act as an incubator, commercialising technologies through the establishment of new companies. SINTEF is represented in this consortium by the institute SINTEF Digital.
In CLOUD, SINTEF is responsible for specification of future solutions were logistics communities collaborate and are given increased responsibility for organising the next segment in the transport chain and for the best possible utilisation of resources.
Previous experiences of relevance to CLOUD:
- SINTEF has lead national and contributed to European projects on freight logistics (e.g. Freightwise, eFreight and iCargo). Through these projects, SINTEF has elaborated ICT solutions for information sharing in supply chains and more efficient supply chains.
- SINTEF has been a leading partner in work on architectures for transport and logistics (e.g. ARKTRANS developed in national projects and the Common Framework for Transport and Logistics developed in iCargo)
- Based on the architectures mentioned above, SINTEF has been involved in standardization of information exchange within logistics. In the iCargo project, SINTEFs contributed to the GS1 LIM standards and was the main contributor to the logistics part of ISO 19845, which is the basis for the information exchange needed in CLOUD.
